The Might of Light!
All over the world reports were coming in of peculiar patterns developing in the sky;
the sky had become a kaleidascope of black and white patterns criss crossing; this chequer board effect did nothing to allay the fears of people on Earth. Something was going on up there but no one knew who, what or why...
On a secret military base in America, hundreds of soldiers were preparing for a military plan of action. A `war' room had been set up so the highest ranking officers could monitor the progress of the strange activities taking place in the sky.
`I've never seen anything like it.', said the Chief of Staff, shaking his head.
`It certainly looks weird, sir. Perhaps it some kinda atmospheric gas'
The Chief of Staff stared at the younger man `You seriously think gas would cause that'
`I don't know sir. I can't imagine what would. You think we're doing the right thing', ventured the young man.
The Chief of Staff's face darkened; he took a step nearer to the younger man, fixing him with a cold stare.
`Of course we are', replied the Chief of Staff, hoarsely `Somethin's causing this', he said, jamming a finger towards the screeen `and whatever it is creating havoc down here, that's why we are going to launch an attack within the next 12 hours'...
`Twelve hours', said Menroc, looking aghast. `Just twelve hours and Buzzin's still in the House of Demons'. Menroc turned away from the Screen of Life and looked at the Chief Councillor trying to gauge his reaction. But as usual the calm countenance gave nothing away.
`Time's running out' persisted Menroc `If Buzzin and Baby don't get out of the House of Demons and back to the Wave before they launch an attack...'
`It is as I predicted', responded the Chief Councillor. `We must hope that Buzzin' and Baby return to the Wave before the military can launch their attack...we must also hope none of the others get drawn off the Wave by Drawoc'
Menroc eyes widened `You don't think they will, do you', he said, sounding incredulous. Surely that wouldn't happen. The Buzzin' Guns were so cool - that's why they were selected.
`I don't think so but then we must never underestimate our foes'...
Baby had conquered the first of his demons - a hideously, huge white snake with dark piercing eyes and fangs like talons; the enormous head had swayed from side to side, its eyes staring hypnotically at Baby. But Baby had used the power of Light to vanish the terrible image. He gripped Buzzin's hand feeling more confident.
`I did it', said Baby, sounding pleased with himself. `I did it'
`You have to do that with every fear, Baby', said Buzzin', gently.
Buzzin knew there was more to come but how much. He had to get them out of there and back to the Wave, he also had to encourage Baby to stay cool.
The dark pushed Baby forward and the familiar feeling of tension began to grip his body.
`Remember, whatever shows itself do the same as you did back there', said Buzzin
`OK', whispered Baby. Despite his victory, fear had taken over once again. Baby waited in the dark knowing that any second some terrible creature would come forward and make him feel more afraid.
He didn't have to wait long. A faint scratching sound broke the heavy silence. Something was moving...making its way through the dark, towards him.
`Don't forget, they're only images made of fear', said Buzzin' re-assuringly.
Baby gulped. `Yeah, but fear looks real and it's scarey'
`It's energy...just energy you've used to create something to frighten yourself with' Buzzin' explained. `You've gotta learn to stop doing that Baby and use the power of Light instead'
Baby tried to move back as the scratching sound moved closer but the darkness pushed him forward separating him from Buzzin' once more. Despite Buzzin's presence, Baby felt isolated. And he was. Fear had separated him from someone he loved and now he had to face whatever was making its way towards him...alone...
Baby let out a whimper as a pair of bulging eyes, set in a dome shaped head appeared out of the darkness; for a second the head looked disembodied...suspended in the dark. But as the creature crawled closer, a huge body covered in thick, coarse hair materialised; then Baby saw dozens of pairs of thick, hairy legs, tapering off into needle sharp points, scratching their way nearer. Two glistening fangs, dripped saliva, as the hungry eyes fixed themselves on Baby.
Baby cried out at the sight of the monster spider. He hated spiders more than anything and what he hated he always seemed to dream of.
Horrible, scarey dreams; spiders crawling all over him; spiders weaving a web around him until he was unable to move, trapped by their thread; hundreds of baby spiders hatching out of his skin. Baby tried not to think about his nightmares but that was difficult now he was in the House of Demons.
He strained to close his eyes but it took all of his energy. The darkness seemed to fight him. He began to feel weak. If only he could visualise the Light. He'd done it before. He had to do it again. He must do it again otherwise he was stuck.
`C'mon Baby, remember the Light', Buzzin's voice seemed to come from far away...like a faint echo.
The thought of being separated from Buzzin' spurred Baby on. He thought of his friends surfing the Wave effortlessly, having fun as they raced towards the Light Eaters. Just thinking of the Wave rising and falling then rushing forward made Baby feel better; he thought of the Garden of the Universe where beauty seemed to grow in front of your eyes, where there was so much Light and colour; then he thought of Buzzin'...cool Buzzin' who wasn't scared of anything. Baby opened his eyes and saw the spider fading...shrinking back into the darkness as though it was being pulled by a piece of string. Baby watched, his eyes popping with wonder as the spider grew smaller and smaller; his feelings of fear were also diminishing as the spider grew smaller and fainter.
Baby seemed to grow in stature as the spider shrunk and finally disappeared altogether. Baby felt the darkness shrink back, releasing its hold on him...momentarily.
`I did it. I did it again', cried Baby, excitedly.
`Well done. See how the Light works for you and not against you like the dark does', said Buzzin'
`Yeah. It's like magic'
`That's right. It's the Light that helps keep you cool'
`Light keeps you cool', repeated Baby.
`Do that everytime and we'll soon be back on the Wave with the others', said Buzzin'
But his instincts told him that time was running out.
